What is the use of PTFE wire? What are its characteristics?

PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) wire is a high-performance special cable with a wide range of applications and unique performance characteristics.

Ⅰ. Application

1.Electronic and electrical fields

● High-frequency communication: In high-frequency communication equipment such as 5G communication and radar, PTFE wire can be used as a transmission line. It can maintain low signal loss during high-frequency signal transmission and ensure signal integrity and stability. For example, in the connection between the base station antenna and the transmitting equipment, the PTFE wire can effectively transmit high-frequency electromagnetic wave signals to ensure high-speed and reliable communication.

● Internal wiring of electronic equipment: used for power lines and signal lines inside electronic equipment such as computers and servers. Due to its good insulation performance and high temperature resistance, it can prevent damage to the inside of electronic equipment due to short circuit or overheating. For example, inside a high-performance graphics card, PTFE wire can withstand the high heat generated by the graphics card when it is working, while ensuring the accuracy of signal transmission.

2.Aerospace field

● Aircraft wiring: wiring in key parts such as the aircraft's avionics system and flight control system. The high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and radiation resistance of PTFE wire enable it to adapt to the complex environmental conditions during the flight of the aircraft. For example, in the engine compartment of an aircraft, where the ambient temperature is high and there are corrosive substances such as fuel, PTFE wire can ensure the normal transmission of engine control signals and sensor signals.

● Spacecraft wiring: used for wiring of electronic systems of spacecraft such as satellites and spacecraft. It can withstand extreme temperature changes in space (from extremely low temperature to high temperature) and high radiation environments. In the satellite's communication system and attitude control system, PTFE wire ensures the stable transmission of signals in the harsh environment of space.

3.Automotive field

● High-voltage wiring harness for new energy vehicles: In new energy vehicles, PTFE wire is used to connect components such as battery packs, motors, and high-voltage control units. It has good insulation and high temperature resistance, and can withstand the high voltage and high current generated when new energy vehicles are working. For example, inside the high-voltage battery pack of an electric vehicle, PTFE wire can prevent short circuits inside the battery pack, ensuring that the battery safely and stably provides power to the vehicle.

● Automotive sensor wiring harness: used for the connection of various automotive sensors (such as engine sensors, body sensors, etc.). The oil resistance and corrosion resistance of PTFE wire enable it to adapt to complex environments such as the engine compartment of an automobile, ensuring the accurate transmission of sensor signals.

4.Industrial Automation Field

● Robot Wiring: Wiring between the control cabinet and the robotic arm of an industrial robot. The PTFE wire has good flexibility and can adapt to the frequent movement and bending of the robot's robotic arm. At the same time, its chemical corrosion resistance can prevent the corrosion of various chemicals in the industrial environment on the line, ensuring the stable transmission of the robot control signal.

● Industrial Automation Equipment Wiring: Used for the connection of various equipment (such as PLC controllers, inverters, etc.) on the automated production line. It can withstand the harsh environment of high temperature, dust and other harsh environments in the industrial site, ensuring the reliability of signal transmission and power supply between automated equipment.

Ⅱ. Features

1.Electrical Performance

● High Insulation Resistance: The insulation resistance of PTFE wire is very high, usually reaching the order of 10¹⁰ - 10¹⁴Ω·m. This means that under normal working conditions, it can effectively prevent the leakage of current and ensure the normal operation of the circuit. For example, in high-precision electronic measuring instruments, PTFE wire can ensure that the measurement signal is not interfered with by the outside world and improve the accuracy of the measurement.

● Low Dielectric Constant and Dielectric Loss: Its dielectric constant is low (about 2.1) and its dielectric loss is also small. This makes the PTFE wire less attenuated when transmitting high-frequency signals, and can maintain the integrity of the signal. In high-speed data transmission systems, such as jumpers connecting optical cables and electronic devices in fiber-optic communications, PTFE wires can ensure that data signals are transmitted quickly and accurately.

2.Physical properties

● High temperature resistance: PTFE wire can maintain good performance in a wide temperature range (-200℃ - 260℃). In high temperature environments, it will not soften, deform or burn like ordinary plastic wires. For example, in the wiring of temperature sensors in some high-temperature industrial furnaces, PTFE wire can ensure stable transmission of sensor signals in high temperature environments.

● Chemical corrosion resistance: It has strong corrosion resistance to most chemicals (such as strong acids, strong alkalis, organic solvents, etc.). This allows PTFE wire to be used in places with corrosive environments such as the chemical industry and the pharmaceutical industry. For example, in the wiring of temperature and pressure sensors inside the reactor of a pharmaceutical factory, PTFE wire can resist the erosion of various chemicals.

3.Mechanical properties

● Good flexibility: PTFE wire has good flexibility and can be easily bent and installed. In some occasions where space is limited or frequent movement is required (such as internal wiring of robots), this flexibility enables it to adapt to complex wiring requirements. At the same time, it will not break or degrade in performance during bending.

● Moderate tensile strength: It has a certain tensile strength and can withstand a certain amount of tension. During the wiring process, even if it is pulled to a certain extent, it will not break easily, ensuring the integrity of the line.
